Took off his shoes and injured his feet – tramper rescued from Tararuas

Press Release – Life Flight Trust
Life Flight was called to the Tararua Ranges early this afternoon after reports of an injured tramper. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter took a Wellington Free Ambulance Intensive Care Paramedic, and landed near the Alpha Hut.

The man, who was in his 20s, was located at the hut.

He had injuries to his feet after he had chosen to take off his shoes whilst tramping from Kaitoke to Alpha Hut.

Due to the injuries, the man was unable to cover the 150 meters of rugged slippery terrain to get on board the helicopter.

The Life Flight team decided winching him out was the only viable option. He was Assessed by the Paramedic and then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department for further treatment.
