Kapiti-Mana Police are appealing for witnesses to two recent, but unrelated, fires which are being investigated as arsons.
The first was a house fire in Hillcrest Road in Raumati South which occurred around 10.30pm on Monday. Initial inquiries have led Police to believe that this fire was intentionally lit and has caused significant damage to the property. Nobody was at home at the time the house fire started.
A 43 year-old local man was arrested on charges of burglary, male assaults female, injuring with intent and intentional damage on Monday afternoon and appeared in Porirua District Court on Tuesday. He has been remanded in custody.
Enquiries are continuing into this suspected arson.
The second fire was a vehicle parked in Winton Street, Paraparaumu, which is believed to have been set alight at around 5.40am yesterday morning. The fire caused extensive damage to the car and damage to the exterior of the property it was parked outside.
