News from NZ Police
Police are investigating the possibility of arson causing a house fire in Naenae at approximately 5.00am this morning.
One of the occupants of the Naenae Road house was woken by his dog barking and alerted his family members.
While the house was extensively damaged, the occupants where able to escape without suffering any injuries.
Police have been conducting a scene examination to determine the cause of the fire.
Detective Constable Mark Sutton states that as the house was not equipped with smoke alarms that there was potential for serious injury or even fatalities if the dog had not woken his owner.
Police are appealing for anyone who was in the Naenae Road, Rata Street area at about 5am and who saw any suspicious activity to contact them directly or to call Crimestoppers (0800 274637)
Please forward any information forthcoming from the public to Detective Constable Mark SUTTON, Lower Hutt Police, 5602617.
