Memo Akten – born in Istanbul, living in London and currently honeymooning in New Zealand – was a star turn at the Semi-Permanent’s second two-day annual event in Wellington this weekend.
For Wellingtonian Benjamin Devine, Memo’s appearance was enough to elicit this memorable tweet: “Seeing Memo at Semi-Permanent today was my Beyonce concert #spwgtn”
Memo, prounced as in memorandum, has a global following as a visual artist, musician and engineer working at the intersection of art and science. His work covers a range of disciplines including installations, performances, films, music videos, online works and mobile applications.
His commercial projects include Meet Your Creator, a stunning live theatrical performance for Saatchi & Saatchi that choreographed moving head spotlights to point at sixteen flying robots each equipped with LEDs and motorized mirrors.
