Press Release – Hound Lodge
Man’s best friend, or fiend? Halloween is not far away, and Wellington dogs are being dressed up for a Halloween photo competition held by Miramar’s Hound Lounge, which offers pet sitting, dog walking, dog training and dog daycare services.
From 24 October, you can view photos of the pooches dressed up in their spookery finery on the Hound Lounge’s website: http://houndlounge.co.nz/halloween-photo-competition/ and also vote for your favourite entrant on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hound-Lounge-Wellington/139199749450754
The dog with the most ‘likes’ by 5pm on Halloween, Thursday 31 October, will win a fabulous goodie (doggie) bag.
“Dogs love getting dressed up and people love animal photos, so Halloween is a perfect excuse,” says Hound Lounge owner Michal McCracken.
However, she also warns that the costumes and chaos during Halloween can be a stressful time for dogs.
Here are some tips from the Hound Lounge to keep your dog safe and happy on the spookiest night of the year:
1. Set your dog up in a comfortable place away from the front door, with some music to cover the sounds of people knocking and ringing the door bell.
2. Keep them away from trick or treaters as they may find the costumes very frightening, and they may bite your visitor.
3. Don’t let them eat lollies or chocolate as some can be toxic to dogs. Also don’t let them swallow any packaging.
4. Don’t let costumed dogs play together. It’s difficult for them to read and exhibit body language when they’re dressed up.
