A 24-year-old has been sentenced to more than five years’ jail for stabbing a Paraparaumu man to death in a Kapiti car park last year.
The NZ Herald reports that Tristim Lee Eastham had pleaded guilty in August to the manslaughter of 20-year-old Sean Strongman-Lintern. Eastham was sentenced in the High Court in Wellington by Justice Ronald Young this morning. Mr Strongman-Lintern died in September last year after being stabbed to death during a fight with Eastham.

Kapiti Police have arrested and charged a man in connection with the death of a 20 year old in the Kapiti Lights complex in the early hours of this morning. The man has been charged with murder and will be appearing in the Porirua District Court on Monday.
Officer in charge of the Kapiti Mana CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says Police patrol cars entered the carpark area of the Kapiti Lights complex around 12:40am on Saturday morning and found the victim lying on the ground.
“From our enquiries so far, it appears an altercation had taken place between the deceased and another male in the vicinity of the Monteiths Kapiti Junction bar, prior to the arrival of Police. Sadly, the victim died at the scene.”
More than 30 Police staff are working on the investigation and a scene examination has been underway in the Kapiti Lights complex.
“As a result of the post-mortem examination carried out this afternoon, Police are now seeking any information relating to a knife or similar item that may have been discarded in the Kapiti Lights area or along State Highway One south of Paraparaumu to Pukerua Bay.”
Police are now able to release the name of the deceased man. He was: Sean Strongman-Lintern, aged 20 years, of Paraparaumu.

Kapiti Police are investigating the death of a young man in the Kapiti Lights complex overnight. Officer in charge of the Kapiti Mana CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam says around 12:40am Police were called to an altercation in the carpark area of Kapiti Lights. A 20 year old Paraparaumu man was found dead at the scene.
“The scene remains cordoned off this morning and Police are currently speaking with some people who were in the vicinity of the Monteiths Kapiti Junction bar at the time of the altercation.”
D/S/S Oxnam says Police are in the early stages of this investigation and have a large team working on establishing the circumstances surrounding this death. Police will not be releasing the name of the deceased until all next of kin have been advised.
