Capital Christmas started at 2pm today with Wellington’s 65th annual Santa Parade, led by Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, with Councillor Simon Woolf (in the big spectacles).

Councillors David Lee and Nicola Young were also parading.

Vintage cars were a feature. And bands.

And hundreds of children. These two were leading the way for a float filled by the Musical Stars group.

CBD streets were lined by onlookers. The Council’s Manager City Events Warrick Dent said the Santa Parade grows every year and he expected 60,000 people today.

After the parade, at Frank Kitts Park Santa was hosting a party for kids, with carols, food and other entertainment.

At 7pm host Nick Tansley was expecting more than 10,000 for the annual Carols by Candlelight, also in Frank Kitts Park.
