A 20-year-old woman has died after the car she was driving crashed through a guard rail on a bridge and plunged into a river near Hunterville last night.

The crash occurred at around 9pm on Turakina Valley Road. Preliminary indications suggest that the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand bend before crashing into the guard rail.

The woman, Keryn Swainson, was the car’s sole occupant. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
