Baby girl dies in hospital after crash at Raumati South; mother in intensive care

An 11 month-old girl has died in Wellington Hospital after yesterday’s crash on State Highway One at Raumati South.

The news is reported by RadioNZ , which quotes the Capital & Coast District Health Board as saying the baby’s mother is still in a serious condition in intensive care.

The father is likely to be discharged today.

The NZ Herald reports that the baby suffered head injuries after the car rolled.

State Highway 1 was closed to northbound traffic at Raumati South for more than three hours today after a serious mid-afternoon crash.

The crash was at the intersection of SH1 and Poplar Avenue.

Advice from the Transport Agency at 3.55pm: The north-bound lane is closed “until further notice.” Delay travel or use State Highway 2.

At 7pm the Agency advised that the north-bound lane had been reopened.

The DomPost reported that a baby and two adults were taken to hospital after the single-car crash.
