With heavy rain, low cloud, and strong north-westerlies, it wasn’t a good morning today today for visitors or motorists in the Wellington region.
But the MetService, optimistically, promised sunshine this afternoon. And they were correct.
The Transport Agency reported three crashes today:
The first was on State Highway 58 at Judgeford. One lane of the highway has since been reopened with a stop/go in place.
The second crash was on State Highway Two just north of Carterton. The road was closed at about 9.30am but a detour was in place. Police said a car crashed into a power pole at Clareville. A rescue helicopter was called to take the woman driver to hospital. The road was reopened about 3pm.
Then at 12.45 the Transport Agency reported a crash was blocking the Hawkestone off ramp on the Wellington motorway. Southbound traffic needed to use an alternative offramp.
