Hutt Valley Police are continuing their investigation in to the assault on a 70 year old man in Naenae early on Sunday morning. Investigators have today interviewed the man and gained further detail on his three attackers.
“He is now recovering after what can only be described as a cowardly attack on a couple who have given a lot to their community. It is too early to say what the motivation could have been or if it was a case of mistaken identity,” said Detective Ben Cornelius.
“After the men intimidated his wife, the man came outside to confront three men who struck him with their fists and a piece of wood leaving him with a broken collar bone, lacerations and bruising.”
Police are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Bush Street, Naenae, area at around 3.00am on Sunday morning. The offenders have been described as three Pacific Island males wearing dark clothing who left the area in a dark coloured four wheel drive vehicle. One has been described as in his mid-30s, around 190cms tall with a muscular build and a black cap and potentially wearing a white collared shirt.

A 70-year-old Naenae man was assaulted by three men outside his house early this morning. Hutt Valley Police are investigating.
Three men went to the house in Bush Street and smashed a number of windows.
“When the man came out to confront the offenders, they set upon him, striking him about the body and head. He suffered a fractured collar bone and required stitches to his head. They then left in a vehicle along Bush Street towards Treadwell Street,” said Detective Sergeant Christiaan Barnard.
Police are seeking sightings of this vehicle which has been described as a dark coloured four wheel drive, possibly a Nissan Terrano or Pathfinder. The offenders have been described as Pacific Island males wearing dark clothing.
