News from Heart Foundation
A giant inflatable heart was stationed at Midland Park in Wellington today between 11am and 2.30pm. Wellingtonians were invited to test their fitness and show their support for Heart Week by taking turns at pumping up the heart and keeping it inflated.
The heart needs to be kept healthy, so fresh fruit was given free to those who helped keep the heart pumping.
Every 90 minutes a New Zealander dies of heart disease. New Zealanders can help mend broken hearts by supporting Heart Week – the Heart Foundation’s annual appeal which runs from 10 to 16 February.
Funds raised during Heart Week will go toward life-saving heart research, programmes to encourage healthy lifestyle changes and helping people affected by heart disease.
Heart Week is proudly sponsored by New Zealand Post and people can donate in store at their local Postshop Kiwibank.
