Bomb scare at Bolton Hotel – guests evacuated, streets closed

The Bolton Hotel was closed for almost three hours this afternoon after guests were evacuated because of a bomb threat.

Emergency Services were called to the Bolton Hotel in Bolton Street, Wellington after a person rang the hotel at 12.45 saying that a bomb had been planted in the building. The hotel was evacuated while the building was searched by the Police Specialist Search Team and an Explosives Dog. Several streets in the immediate area were closed while the incident was being dealt with.

At 1.41, MetLink advised:
Due to an emergency incident, the Terrace is closed off to all traffic.

At 3.20, MetLink advised:
There could be bus delays in the CBD due to the incident on Bolton Street.

At 3.25, the DomPost reported that the hotel had reopened and the bomb scare had been resolved, with nothing found.
