Long delays to motorway traffic after two accidents near Horokiwi

Two accidents within two hours on the SH2 motorway near Horokiwi this morning caused considerable traffic delays to southbound traffic.

News from NZ Police at 7.50am
Emergency services have been called to a car on fire in the southbound lane of the Petone to Wellington Motorway near Horokiwi. Traffic southbound has been reduced to one lane, causing major delays to city bound traffic.

A slight wind is pushing smoke towards the harbour, so visibility has not been an issue but northbound traffic is slowing considerably due to people watching what is happening. Caution is advised in both directions. There have been no injuries.

All lanes are open again on SH2. Expect significant southbound and northbound delays as the traffic backlog clears.

There has been a crash on SH2 in Horokiwi. There is a large amount of debris in the southbound fast lane. Take care amd expect delay.

Southbound traffic on SH2 is reduced to one lane in Horokiwi. Expect long delays in Petone. Delay your journey if possible.
