Scottish tourist injured when quad bike rolls down bank

A 22 year old Scottish tourist was injured this morning when she lost control of her quad bike and rolled down a five metre bank.

The accident occured in the Wairarapa, on Haurangi Road in Ruakokoputuna, south of Martinborough.

Life Flight sent the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic.

The accident was witnessed by people in a car following the quad bike. The witnesses called 111 and managed to carry the injured woman back up to the roadside. A road ambulance arrived at the same time as the helicopter.

The woman is suffering from possible back injuries, serious leg injuries as well as other cuts and bruises.

She has been taken to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department in a serious condition.
