A woman cyclist was killed in a collision involving a semi-trailer truck in Palmerston North, just after 7am this morning.
Both the cyclist and truck were travelling up Summerhill Drive when the collision occurred.
The cyclist died at the scene. She was Jocelyn Goodwin, aged 51, from Palmerston North. Mrs Goodwin was an experienced road cyclist and frequently took part in cycling events.
Police are speaking to the truck driver who was not injured.
“We are in the process of piecing together what factors have led to the crash and it is too early at this stage to comment on any potential charges.
“The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and officers are continuing to make inquiries and speak to witnesses,” says Acting Detective Sergeant Shelley Ross of the Manawatu CIB.
Police will not release any further details about the woman until her next of kin has been informed.
