Removal of crane postponed because of southerly forecast

News from Wellington City Council
Strong southerly winds forecast for this weekend have prompted the postponement of the removal of a tower crane fromon a construction site in lower Taranaki Street, central Wellington.

The section of Taranaki Street between Courtenay Place and Wakefield Street was to be reduced to one lane in each direction from 4am tomorrow so a 350-tonne mobile crane had room to remove the tower crane from the Elevate apartments site near the Wakefield Street intersection.

The operation has been rescheduled for 26-27 April.

News from Wellington City Council – April 9
Motorists are urged to avoid lower Taranaki Street – between Wakefield Street and Manners Street-Courtenay Place – this weekend while a tower crane is removed from a construction site.

The section of roadway will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 4am on Saturday – weather permitting – so a 350-tonne mobile crane has room to remove the tower crane from the Elevate apartments site near the Wakefield Street intersection.

In the event of windy weather on Saturday, the operation will start at 4am on Sunday.

Motorists seeking to avoid delays while getting across town should steer clear of Taranaki Street.
