A man wearing a balaclava and carrying a knife tried to rob a Porirua Foodmart yesterday morning.

He walked into the Foodmart on Fantame Street, and threatened the owner with a large knife.

“He demanded cash, which prompted the owner to run to the back of the store out of fear. The offender then ran from the store heading north on Fantame Street,” said Detective Sergeant Christiaan Barnard.

“He was wearing a distinctive hoody what was black in the torso with red and black sleeves, camouflage pants, and a black balaclava with holes for the eyes, nose and mouth.”

Police are seeking sightings of this man in the Waitangirua area around 10:30am on Saturday.
