A landslide caused by overnight heavy rain has forced the evacuation of a four-storey apartment building in Oriental Bay.
The DomPost reports that a neighbouring building was also flooded, after part of the hillside below McFarlane Street collapsed.
Radio New Zealand reports that a house above the slide has also been evacuated. It says a broken water main may have caused the slip.
NewstalkZB reports that City Council spokesperson Richard Maclean says the risk of more debris coming down has to be looked at, as does the structural integrity of the buildings. “There’s obviously going to be a lot of engineers, a lot of experts on the scene trying to figure out what has to be done and what can be done firstly just to make the site safe.”
In Karori, another slip is reported to be blocking Nottingham Street,
