Press Release – Warwick Taylor
There will be a public meeting of groups and individuals interested in taking action to change the Regional Council’s mind about trolley buses. It is to be held at the Newtown Community Centre at 2pm on Sunday.
The organisers are concerned not only about the decision but the way the decision was made.
None of the Regional Councillors stated publicly that they would vote to scrap the trolleybuses during the local body campaign last year nor was there any mention of it in the early drafts of the Regional Public Transport Plan.
The Council is due to make a final decision on the future of the trolleybuses at its full meeting on Wednesday. The Hearings Committee of the Council has recommended the withdrawal of support for the trolleybuses from 1 July 2017.
