Seven-week search ends with drug arrest in Nelson motel

Nelson Police armed offenders squad and CIB ended a 7 week operation when locating and arresting MTerry Jones at a local motel at approximately 4am this morning.

Detective Sergeant Chris Roberts of Nelson police CIB said “Jones has been the subject of wide national publicity generated by police and we are confident that his arrest will have an impact in decreasing the supply, use and associated social carnage in our district methamphetamine so often causes”.

A substantial amount of what is believed to be methamphetamine was also found in the motel room where Mr Jones was arrested this morning.

Another man and woman at the motel face charges in relation to this drug find.

Mr Roberts said “The successful result of this operation has come about through a steady stream of information provided by the public for which we are extremely grateful.”

Mr Jones will appear in the Nelson District Court on Monday to face charges in relation to this morning’s find along with other charges that relate to the discovery of a portable clandestine laboratory and methamphetamine in a Nelson secure lock-up unit on 7th May.
