16-year-old driver killed in head-on collision; two people injured

A 16-year-old died in a head-on collision on State Highway 2 at Mangamutu, five kilometres south of Pahiatua, late last night.

He was Cheyenne Ihaka, aged 16, of Eketahuna, who was driving a Ford Falcon.

Officer are continuing to speak to witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the crash.

The 37-year-old woman driver of a Mazda remains in a serious condition and the 17-year-old male passenger of the Ford remains in a moderate condition in the Palmerston North Hospital.

The crash investigation is on going and the death has now been referred to the Coroner.
