Press Release – New Zealand Defence Force
Air Marshal Sir Richard Bolt KBE CB DFC AFC, RNZAF (Rtd) will be farewelled with full military honours at St Paul’s Cathedral in Wellington at 2.30pm on Friday.
A military funeral with full honours is reserved for those who have attained the top posts within the Defence Force. Air Marshal Bolt was a former Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Air Staff. He is widely regarded as being the “Father of the Air Force”.
The funeral will commence at 2.30pm with a 100-man tri-service guard and Royal New Zealand Air Force Warrant Officers will be pallbearers.
After the service the casket will be carried out to a waiting hearse. Three rifle volleys will then be fired followed by the playing of the Last Post.
The funeral procession will leave the Cathedral and proceed to Freyberg House on Aitken Street during which a flypast at 500ft by a C-130 Hercules aircraft will occur.
Given the number of attendees it is likely Molesworth and Aitken Streets will be closed briefly to traffic to allow the procession to pass.
