The Hutt River remains high this morning after last night’s torrential rain, and Block Road was closed overnight because of surface flooding. The road will reopen as soon as the Hutt council decides that it is safe.
MetService has cancelled its severe weather watch. It predicts showers today, with more rain tonight. And sunshine on Monday and Tuesday. But the cold southerly change is still coming

Severe northwest gales are expected in Wellington until around midnight, with gusts of 130km/h likely in exposed places.
MetService forecasts heavy rain from late afternoon. It says there’s a possibility that rainfall accumulations could approach warning amounts about the hills of Wellington and the Kapiti Coast from this afternoon until early Sunday
And it says winds in the Wairarapa could reach 140km/h till Sunday morning.
