Marton Police are appealing for help from the public after burglars stole hire equipment including chainsaws and jackhammers from a local mechanical business last Thursday.
“The burglary occurred at Robbie’s Mechanical Services on Wellington Road, Marton, and witnesses have informed us that sometime between 11pm and midnight a dark grey early 1980s 4×4 was seen parked on vacant land near the rear of the workshop,” says Constable Matt Davis.
A large container at the rear of Robbie’s workshop was entered and a quantity of hire equipment stolen. This included chainsaws, concrete cutters, jack hammers, and other specialised hire equipment.
“We understand the vehicle had a horse float or enclosed furniture float attached and it may have been coloured either brown or red.”
It is believed that two people were seen with this vehicle. Officers are analysing CCTV footage from the business.
“Police are urgently seeking information in regards to this vehicle and in particular the horse/furniture float which could have been hired or stolen from the Whanganui, Horowhenua, or Palmerston North areas. Some of this equipment will be hard to move because of its specialised nature.
“We want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the burglary or has any information about it. If you have been offered hardware equipment at a discount rate recently we encourage you to contact the Police as it may be linked to the burglary.
“If you have noticed any suspicious vehicles or activity around your community call 111 at the time.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Davis on (06) 327 4296. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
