News from NZ Police – August 9
A service station attendant was stabbed during a robbery early this morning at the Levin Mobil Service Station on Oxford Street.

At about 4:30am, a masked person entered the service station and stabbed the male attendant with what is believed to be a knife, at least three times to his head, face, and arm.

The offender then demanded cigarettes, stole an unknown amount, and left the scene. The robber was wearing dark coloured clothing with a white bandanna type cloth covering the face.

The service station attendant called emergency services who quickly arrived on the scene.

Detective Mike Deegan of the Manawatu CIB says: “We are providing support to the victim who has been left shaken from this vicious and callous attack. It is vital that we speak with anyone who may have any information about this incident and we have released a CCTV image (above) in the hope that the public may help identify the offender.”

The victim sustained non-life threatening lacerations and is in Palmerston North Hospital in a stable condition. Officers are continuing to speak with him to gain a description of the offender, including gender.

A scene examination has been completed this morning.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area around the service station between 3:30am to 4:15am and noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles.

“The navy and white coloured shoes the offender is wearing in the CCTV image are quite distinctive so we hope someone will recognise this person. If anyone has any information please contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Joe Pointon on (06) 210 2219. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
