Rainbow colours on MFC in sympathy for Florida killings

News from Wellington City Council
Wellington’s Michael Fowler Centre will be lit in colours of the rainbow this evening as a gesture of support for the LGBTI victims of the Pulse nightclub attack in Orlando, Florida.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown says Wellingtonians have reacted in horror to the news of the massacre. “This is a multi-cultural capital city – we welcome diversity of expression. I express my deepest sympathies to the families and friends of the victims.”

Mayor Wade-Brown will join others at the Stand for Orlando event scheduled to start in Frank Kitts Park at six o’clock this evening.

Great to see the Rainbow supporters re the Orlando shootings and that the Mayor made a speech on Frank Kitts Park. I trust she realised how well the park and amphitheatre work with various levels – not a “flat lawn”!

Does the mayor want to ride her electric bike across flat lawn without the hassle of an amphitheatre obstructing her journey? She should use a mountain bike and save ratepayers millions of dollars in having to demolish this unique successful facility.

Shame councillors don’t stick to the age old saying “if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it”. Would save the ratepayers millions in unnecessary spending.
