Bombing, backflipping and diving on the waterfront this weekend

Press Release – Welly Bomb Comp

The first ever Welly Bomb Comp is going down on the waterfront this weekend. Head to Wellington’s jump platform to show off your manus, cheer your friends, and compete for over $2000 of prizes.

Things will kick off at 2 PM with music and open diving when everyone is welcome to jump in the water and win spot prizes. Those wishing to enter the judged competition can register on-site, just bring $5 and your best bombs.

When: March 18, 2 PM
Where: Taranaki Wharf Jump Platform
What: Wellington’s first official bomb comp. Come show off your manus, cheer on your friends, and compete for over $2000 of prizes.

The Welly Bomb Comp is celebrating one of New Zealand’s favorite pastimes. Everyone is invited, whether you want to throw a backflip from the top platform or just stand on the sidelines getting splashed. Starting at 2 PM, Mai FM will be on site playing music and handing out spot prizes. The Wellington – LIVE jumping day is going on at the same time, so bring your friends and togs and take a jump or two into the water. After everyone has had their fill, the Wellington Dive Club will take to the platforms to show off their aerial acrobatics.

The event will culminate with the official competition. Over $2000 in prizes include a helicopter ride, a UE Boom speaker, two tickets to Twenty One Pilots, and $500 cash. Those wishing to compete can register on site for $5, as long as spaces last. Bombs will be scored by a panel of judges using a variety of criteria including splash height, difficulty, and style. Competitors will advance over several rounds in their attempt to be crowned Wellington’s manu king.

A huge thanks to all the sponsors: Wellington City Council, Wellington – LIVE, Gelissimo Gelateria, Positively Wellington Venues, Wellington Helicopters, Macpac Willis St, Switched on Bikes, Mac’s Brewbar, Good As Gold, Fergs Kayaks Wellington, Real Surf, and Embassy Theatre.
