There were traffic queues up to 25km long on State Highway 2 this morning after a truck broke down between Petone and Ngauranga.
The NZ Herald reported that the traffic backed up as far as Upper Hutt.
It said thousands of Wellingtonians were late to work this morning after the breakdown and a separate crash, both in the same area near Horokiwi. It reported delays as long as 90 minutes.
According to the DomPost, the delays were even longer – with cars and buses delayed for two hours.
By mid morning, the Transport Agency advised that the road had been cleared but traffic was “still heavy.”
