How could it happen? Car swept into the sea near the airport

There are many questions about the car that was swept off the breakwater into Lyall Bay alongside the airport runway on Sunday.

For a start: why are cars allowed on to such a dangerous area?

And secondly: if it’s dangerous for cars, it’s surely equally dangerous for pedestrians.

A third question: who is responsible for getting rid of the debris in the sea?

Wellington Airport: how come you’re not in charge when bad stuff happens at the Moa Point breakwater, yet you built and maintain it and want to make it into a “promenade” which will be super dangerous to the public? Another reason we say #runwaynoway. [via twitter]
