Report from RNZ
Three fire engines were dispatched to Parliament this morning after a suspicious parcel was sent to the Beehive.

Three fire trucks, a hazmat unit and the police arrived at the precinct.

Police later said the suspicious parcel which caused alarm was carrying an “innocuous mineral substance” and there was no risk to anyone.

The suspicious package was sent to level 8 of the Beehive, which is where Jacinda Ardern’s mail is delivered, they said.

Police said one area had been isolated as a precaution.

Te Papa was briefly evacuated this morning after smoke was coming from a kitchen on level 3. An all clear was quickly given, allowing staff and visitors to re-enter the museum.
