Auckland and Wellington top of the fully vaccinated list

Report from RNZ
Auckland and Wellington are leading the race to get to 90 percent vaccinated.

The Auckland DHB has reached 80 percent fully vaccinated and 93 percent first doses, so will exceed the 90 percent target if those people get their second dose.

Capital and Coast DHB and Waitematā DHB are close behind at 75 percent vaccinated, and 91 percent and 90 percent first doses administered respectively.

Northland and Tairāwhiti are at the bottom of the table with 61 percent and 60 percent fully vaccinated. Northland has 77 percent first doses administered and Tairawhiti 76 percent.

Auckland and Capital and Coast DHBs also lead in Māori vaccination rates with 60 percent fully vaccinated in Auckland and 58 percent in Capital and Coast.

Associate Health Minister Peeni Henare has announced a $120 million fund would support Māori communities to fast-track vaccination efforts and prepare for the new traffic lights framework. A total of $60m would be spent on boosting Māori vaccination rates, and $60m would support Māori and iwi-led initiatives to protect communities against the virus.

Henare said the ongoing support was what was required to boost Māori vaccination rates. “While we say 90 percent for Māori and indeed the rest of the population, we will continue to make the vaccine available to continue to lift those numbers,” he said.
