Wellington Water apologises for not telling Newlands residents about burst main

Our crews responded to a burst water main in Newlands overnight. It was reported at 10:30pm. Unfortunately, due to the large amount of water drained from the reservoir, the auto-shutoff valve was activated which shut off water to all of the Newlands Zone.

Water service was restored quickly for all but 16 properties. Water was returned to these properties by 6.30am this morning.

This incident was not escalated to our Incident Coordinator until this morning, which meant we did not push out information to all affected residents at the time of the burst.

We apologise for this oversight. We are looking into our incident escalation process to work out what went wrong.

Wellington Water aspires to be transparent and communicate these issues to residents as quickly as possible.
