Second covid case in Palmerston North

Another case of covid has been reported in Palmerston North today. It is linked to the previously reported case.

Public health staff say the public health risk is low as this person has been isolating since November 17.

The first covid case in Palmerston North was reported last Thursday – a man who felt unwell after attending cricket training.

The Ministry of Health continues to encourage testing for anyone with mild symptoms of COVID-19 across Horowhenua, Manawatū, and Tararua.

Also anyone in the Pahiatua area who has even the mildest of covid symptoms is encouraged to have a Covid swab given the positive wastewater results on 15, 16 and 18 November.

A total of 205 new community cases have been reported today. But the new Palmerston North case is not included as it was recorded after the morning cutoff.

Of the new cases, 175 are in Auckland, 20 in the Waikato, five in the Bay of Plenty, one in Taupō and four in Northland. No new cases have been reported in Wellington.

A further covid death is reported today – a man in his 40s who died in Middlemore Hospital. There are 85 people in hospital, five of them in icu.

The Ministry of Health says 91 percent of eligible people in New Zealand have had their first vaccination and 83 percent are fully vaccinated. More than 1.1 million My Vaccine Passes have been created.
