Third covid case in Wellington – linked with New Years Eve party in Auckland

There are now three active cases of covid in Wellington. The third case, announced today by the Ministry of Health, is connected with the Britomart Block Party in Auckland on New Year’s Eve.

The patient is in isolation and, at this stage, no associated locations of interest have been identified in the Wellington region.

However testing in Wellington almost doubled to 800 yesterday

Anyone who attended the Britomart event between 11.15pm on 31 December and 2.30am on 1 January is advised to immediately get tested, then self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for 10 days after you were exposed. If you have symptoms get tested, stay home until you receive a negative test result.

Wellington’s first two recent covid cases were reported on Saturday.

A total of 27 new community cases were reported today, most in Auckland. Another 33 cases were found among travellers from overseas in managed isolation.

More than 500,000 people have so far had booster shots. Wellington vaccination centres offering boosters without bookings today included Capital Gateway, where walk-ins were moving readily, and the Hub at Kilbirnie Park, where the morning queue became so long that people were asked to return in the afternoon. At Unichem opposite Midland Park, the wait was less than ten minutes.

More than 42,700 shots have been administered in the Wellington region since boosters became available last year, according to Capital and Coast District Health Board.

With COVID-19 cases being reported in Wellington, it’s important that you continue to scan QR codes, wear a mask, keep 1m distance, stay home if you are unwell, & wash & sanitise often.
