New Burlesque Queen crowned – she’s from the Manawatu

Press Release – Miss Burlesque New Zealand
Boas, werewolfs, horses and glitter reveals were all part of the show at the annual Miss Burlesque New Zealand held in Auckland on Saturday. MisRed Delicious from the Manawatu was crowned Queen with her routine which was a classic bump n grind incorporating MisRed Delicious’ signature skill of concealment. The audience were wowed with what came out of her costume and the sparkliness of it.

Willow Noir who is Miss Burlesque New Zealand 2012 was on hand to crown the new queen and for the very first time Mr Burlesque New Zealand.

There were 9 titles up for grabs on the night and Wellington’s Honey Suckle (above, with friends) scooped Miss Congeniality and first runner up with her crazy cat lady routine. This was a close competition with only 1 point separating MisRed Delicious and Honey Suckle, the quality of dancing, costuming and communicating the story behind the routine is what the judges were looking for.

This year there were two international judges Minsky Malone from the Melbourne School of Burlesque and Raven the inaugural Mr Boylesque Australia 2012. Minsky Malone was a judge at the Inaugural Miss Burlesque New Zealand 4 years ago and has over 20 years experience in the burlesque industry. She has performed for stars like Robbie Williams and Ali G. “It’s amazing to see how the industry and the performers are developing. Everyone worked really hard on their routines, the event was really well organised with lots of glitz”

Wellington has an opportunity this Friday night to experience some of the glitz and glamour with a burlesque show called Burlesque Rocks. This is a rock themed burlesque show so prepare yourself to be entertained. Minsky Malone will be performing which is Wellington’s chance to see an international performer and teacher. The new Miss Burlesque NZ Queen – MisRed Delicious will be there and Honey Suckle is performing a new routine.

Burlesque Rocks is on Friday 19 April at 9pm, The Fringe Bar, 191 Cuba St, Te Aro. Tickets from event finder http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2013/burlesque-rocks-wellington/wellington-region/wellington
