Three killed, four injured in head-on crash on SH3 near Marton

Three people were killed in a head-on crash yesterday afternoon at the intersection of State Highway 3 and Williamson Line, near Marton.

One vehicle, a blue Holden Commodore, was towing a trailer and had five occupants and the other, a silver Mazda, had two.

Two people who were in the Holden were killed in the crash. They were 41 year old Jennifer Susan Town and her 14 year old son Zane William Town, both from Wanganui. The other three occupants of that vehicle remain in hospital with critical to moderate injuries.

Both people from the Mazda were taken by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital, one with critical injuries. She died later in hospital. She was Judy Daryl Redfearn, 68, of Palmerston North.

A third vehicle, a white van, may have been involved. Police would like to speak to the driver of this van.

The Police Serious Crash Unit will be investigating.
